Frequently Asked Questions
At what age can my child begin lessons?
At the Copper Country Suzuki Association, children as young as
three can begin cello or violin. The Suzuki Method can also work well for eight or nine year-old beginners. Students are accepted at the teacher's discretion.
When can I sign up for lessons?
We have three 11-week semesters, Fall (September - November), Winter (December - February), and Spring (March - May). Registration occurs before before each term begins.
For specific information about registration dates please contact an instructor. Depending on instructor availability students may be able to start any time during a semester.
For a list of the class times see our current Courses.
How do I decide on an instrument for my child?
Expose your child to all three instruments (cello, viola, and
violin) through recordings, observing lessons, or attending
concerts. Give your child a chance to show a preference. Following
their natural interest is always the best idea, if possible. Remember that the choice often will be most influenced by simple exposure.
Cello and violin are orchestral instruments. As your child progresses, they
will have the opportunity to play in
youth or community orchestras. The social aspects of these ensembles often appeal to adolescents. Another appealing attribute of violins is that they are compact and easy to carry.
Can I observe an individual or group lesson?
Definitely! Please contact an instructor to arrange a time.
